Become a DV Advocate

SAVE’s 40-Hour Domestic Violence Advocate Training meets state guidelines. Completion of the training earns you a Domestic Violence Counselor Certificate in the state of California. SAVE holds this training twice a year. Please note that trainees must attend ALL sessions in full to receive their certificate. 

Why take the training?

  • To work with those affected by domestic violence as a SAVE direct service volunteer
  • To volunteer with another domestic violence organization within California
  • To enhance your ability to work with survivors in your current or future professional capacity

  1. Submit a completed application for your preferred type of enrollment, outlined below.
  2. If selected, participate in an interview with our Community Engagement and Education Manager. (This is as much a chance for us to get to know you as it is for you to ask questions about what to expect)
  3. If selected, mark your calendar, submit payment, and get ready to learn!

Types of Enrollment

There are two types of enrollment for SAVE’s 40-Hour Domestic Violence Advocate Training:

Volunteering Participants

  • Enroll in the training at a discounted rate ($75)
  • Commit to 100 hours of service with SAVE over the course of at least 6 months, to be started within the first month of completing training
  • Partial scholarships may be available
  • Payment will be due upon acceptance and must be made in full prior to the start of training

Community Member Participants

  • Enroll in the training at the standard rate ($350)
  • Welcome and encouraged to volunteer with SAVE, but are under no obligation to do so
  • Preference is given to members of partner agencies
  • Limited number of spaces each session
  • Payment will be due upon acceptance and must be made in full prior to the start of training. Payment plans are available if arranged ahead of time.
