COPS Advocates

SAVE’s COPS (Community Oriented Prevention Services) Program provides resources and support for domestic violence survivors.

To speak to an advocate about services such as:

  • Help filling out a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO)
  • Court Accompaniment
  • Help with emergency shelter, counseling, food and clothing and more

SAVE Advocates work with the police department but are not police officers. They work directly to support survivors with the Police Officers to provide complete support. Our Advocates are available at the Fremont, Hayward, Newark, Union City, and San Leandro Police Departments. They can be reached by calling:

Walk in Services

We have walk-in services, where you can come to our Empowerment Center and meet with advocates for immediate assistance. We are open, and survivors are welcome to walk in without appointments. However, we strongly encourage you to call first to ensure we have someone available. The Empowerment Center is located at 1900 Mowry Ave, Suite 201, Fremont, CA 94538.

Safe House

SAVE’s Safe House offers a safe place for survivors fleeing abuse. If we can’t accommodate you at our shelter, a SAVE advocate will assist you with resources for alternate housing.

Adult and Family Empowerment

Individual Counseling

Talking about intimate partner abuse can help you gain perspective and begin the process of healing. SAVE offers free, confidential individual counseling. Whether you are currently in a relationship or have experienced past abuse, we can help provide you with tools to break the cycle of violence.

About SAVE’s Individual Counseling Program:

  • SAVE’s individual counseling is free and confidential, and available to all genders.
  • Counseling is provided by supervised Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) candidates.
  • Appointments are available Monday through Saturday at SAVE’s Community Office in Fremont. Morning, afternoon, and early evening appointments are available.

Drop-In Support Groups

If you are experiencing intimate partner abuse or have been abused in the past, you may be feeling depressed and frustrated. Your self-esteem may be low and you may also feel isolated from family, friends, and your community. Please know that you are not alone — SAVE is here to help.  Our free Drop-In Support Group can help you gain perspective, connect with other survivors, and improve your self-image.

SAVE’s support groups meet three times per week in the Group Healing Room at the Empowerment Center at SAVE, 1900 Mowry Avenue, Suite 201, Fremont, CA 94538.

  • English (Virtual): Tuesday from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm | Wednesday from 9:15 am – 11:15 am
  • Spanish (In-person): Thursday from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Long-term Housing

SAVE understands that domestic violence survivors worry about having a safe place to stay after they complete our shelter program but help is available.

The Domestic Violence Housing First (DVHF) program which offers a range of housing assistance such as move-in costs, rental assistance and help with utilities as well as ongoing case management support.

Temporary Restraining Order Assistance

About  SAVE’s Temporary Restraining Order Assistance(TRO)

  • SAVE Temporary Restraining Order Assistance is provided at the Fremont, Hayward, Newark, Union City and San Leandro Police Departments.
  • Our advocates will provide the necessary paperwork, help you complete it, and provide instructions on how to file the documents with the court and what to expect once you’ve filed. There is no court filing fee for restraining orders.

Court Accompaniment

At this time, Court Accompaniment is available at the Hayward Hall of Justice (Alameda County Superior Court), 24405 Amador Street, Hayward, CA.

  • To request court accompaniment, call our 24-Hour Crisis Line at (510) 794-6055.
  • When available, a SAVE staff member or trained volunteer will accompany you to legal proceedings.
  • Our advocate will stay by your side and provide reassurance during your hearing.
  • SAVE advocates are not allowed to speak on your behalf or provide legal advice, but having a SAVE representative with you can help you feel confident, focused, and empowered.
