Temporary Restraining Order Assistance

A Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) can be an effective tool in helping you stay safe and prevent further abuse. SAVE can help you complete court documents and work with you to file the paperwork with the court.

A TRO is a legal document that offers the petitioner (you) protection from the respondent (the person doing you harm). TRO protections can include an order not to abuse, a no-contact order, a stay-away order, a move-out orders, child visitation orders, and/or protection for pets and family members.

These protections, if granted by the court, are in place from the moment the respondent is served until the assigned hearing date. At that hearing, a judge will determine whether/how long to extend this protection. Restraining Orders After Hearing can be granted for up to 5 years.
