Temporary Restraining Order Assistance

A Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) can be an effective tool in helping you stay safe and prevent further abuse. SAVE can help you complete court documents and tell you how to file the paperwork with the court.

A TRO is a legal document that orders a batterer to stay a certain distance from you, and to stop all contact and harassment. If the batterer lives with you and you want them to move out, you can request that in your restraining order application. You may also request that you have temporary custody of your children.

Once you file for a TRO, you will be given a court date. At that hearing, you may request that the Temporary Restraining Order be extended. SAVE advocates are available to provide emotional support at your court hearing. If the restraining order is granted, the judge will make the order good for 1 to 5 years or more.
